RCSpeedo
Turn your mobile device into an RC airplanespeedometer!Features:Listen and fly! RC Speedo will announce RC airplane speeds aftereach pass.Easy to use speed logging and email export! Create custom logs tostore your speeds for future review.Share your speeds! Instantly post your top speeds to your favoritesocial networks.RC Speedo is a speedometer app for EDF's, pylon racers, pushers, and other hi-speed electric radio-controlled airplanes. Theapplication performs doppler analysis on the sound of an RCairplane passing in front of the mobile device’s microphone. Thismethod of finding an RC aircraft's speed was pioneered by RCenthusiasts to accurately calculate the speed of a radio-controlledairplane using a clean sound clip of the airplane making a speedrun past the pilot. With RC Speedo the process is greatly simplified: just bring yourphone to the field and hit "listen". As you make passes with yourfavorite airplane, the app will report your speeds back to you inreal time! The Android RC Speedo app runs on any Android device runningversion 1.6 (Donut) or higher. RC Speedo requires the device tohave a built in microphone in order to operate. The RC Speedo app works best with electric RC aircraft that havehigh RPM, high blade count propulsion systems. This includes EDFs,pylon racers, pusher jets, and similar airplanes. RC Speedocurrently will NOT work on planes that are extremely quiet, operateat low RPM's, turbines, most nitro planes, and planes with nopropulsion system. It also cannot detect aircraft traveling slowerthan 25 MPH. RC Speedo will NOT work with helicopters.RC Speedo is not guaranteed to “hear” every pass. Ensure that thesettings are correct for your aircraft and try to make straight andsmooth passes. Please consult the manual page at www.rcspeedo.comfor more information on settings and features. The makers of thisapp are not responsible for any damage caused to your phone, plane,or self while using this app. Fly safe!To view a manual for the app and see videos of it in action, pleasevisit:http://www.rcspeedo.com/
Background Vario 1.0
Background Vario uses your phones Barometric sensor to measurealtitude with very fine accuracy. It then reports altitude andvertical speed within defined intervals using text-to-voice. Forinstance, you can set the app to report every gain or loss of 200ftand it will read out "one thousand eight hundred feet", "twothousand feed", etc etc as you climb. This app essentially servesas a replacement for your standard "beeping" variety variometer. The virtue of this way of doing things is you can listen to music, talk on radio, or otherwise use audio devices without constantlyhaving to deal with beeping in the background.' When you firststart the app, it will calibrate using GPS. GPS will sense youraltitude within +/-100ft (with a good signal), and the barometerwill take over after that. This initial calibration can take up to aminute depending on how good your GPS reception is. Periodicallywhile you are using the app the altitude will be re-calibrated withthe GPS. You can set the interval on which this occurs in thesettings. Background Vario will only work properly with Androiddevices equipped with a barometer. Please see a listing of Androiddevices with a barometer here:http://forum.xcsoar.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=397
